By @nathanaellark “APRIL
April was murdered by her boyfriend in his final act of domestic violence.
My friend @cristal_bell wrote to me recently, requesting this portrait of her sister April for the cover of the Memorial Service book.
The rest of this post is written to you from Crystal. Please… listen.
Meet my sister April. She was 26, vibrant, silly, caring and compassionate. Most of all she wanted to experience true love from the man of her dreams.
She had so much life to live.
On June 8th, 2014, she was violently and horrifically murdered by the man she believed she was in love with. The way he killed her was so gruesome it made local news for a week.
Despite the concern from those around her, April felt a strong connection to this man and knew he was the one.
Slowly came the excuses:
No one will love me like he loves me.
I’m so lucky to have him. I don’t know why he is with me.
This bruise happened by accident.
I need to try not to make him so angry.
It’s my fault.
I just want him to love me.
He only hit me one time. It was an accident.
Maybe if I try harder he won’t have to teach me a lesson.
She died afraid, in pain and witnessing the man she loved, swinging a machete in and out of her flesh until she was unable to breathe. Her body was found crumpled and bloody in the corner of her bedroom.
I am making this plea to you:
Please do not end up like April by making her mistakes.
Please do not force your family to go through this kind of heartache.
If he hits you once, he will most likely hit you again.
He is not hitting you because he loves you; he’s hitting you because he is a coward.
You ARE beautiful both inside and out.
You ARE intelligent.
You ARE who you should be living for.
You ARE strong.
You ARE deserving of someone who will love, adore and cherish you.
If he hits you once, that is already one time too many.
You are strong enough to walk away and there is NO reason to stay with someone who makes you feel worthless.
Domestic violence kills.
When (not if) you walk away, you are not a victim; you are a SURVIVOR.
Please do not end up like April.
You have so much life to live.” via @PhotoRepost_app
